Review:
There isn’t too much to say about this show, it is basically the same premise as the season before it with the aforementioned changes. That being said the changes breathe new life in the new possibilities of the neighbors pets and her freedom to go outside. Chi is still adorable, and cat owners and lovers alike will revel in her cat antics that are innocent and lovable. This show is very simple and the four minute episodes make it easy for a shot of cuteness whenever you need it. I don’t know what else to say really, its simple and perfect in what it is and does what it set out to do, be adorable. If youre studying Japanese try watching it without subs as the language is very simple it could be good practice. I laughed, I cried – really I did, and I squealed with delight at the cuteness of this show. It only gets a low score because I try to score critically, and no its not amazing, nor does it really have a plot. But, on a personal enjoyment level I love this show so much and on a personal scale its one of my favorite anime ever, easily a 5/5.

Summary:
Cooking is so fun…cooking is so fun…now it’s time to take a break and see what we have done.
Review:
The best way to breakdown this anime’s story is to explain the characters. You have the child genius, Chiyo-chan who is about half the age of everybody else (And half the height), but shes twice as smart and of course cute, then there is Tomo Takino, the tom boy, who is always full of energy and also a total dimwit. She often copies homework on her friends and her energic personality adds a lot of spice to the series. The other key characters of the series include, Sakaki, Osaka and Yomi. Sakaki is a tall, sporty, girl who loves cats. The only problem is that the cats always seem to bite her! It is hilarious! Osaka is the awkward, really dumb girl who comes from Osaka and as a results shes a little backwards, including her southern accent!
As Azumanga Daioh is based after a manga, the series is broken down into short 3-5 minute episodes that stitch together seemlessly to form a story, an often times random story. This anime is incredibly random, from a floating cat that is apparently Chiyo’s father to crazy occurances in the classroom, Azumanga is one of the most random and as a result one of the funniest animes out there. It is a total classic. In addition, the humor in Azumanga Daioh, continually hits the nail on the head, unlike some other anime which fall flat over and over again.
I truly recommend Azumanga Daioh to people of any gender, of any age. It is a classic comedy that is timeless and as a result, it shouldn’t be missed by anybody and deserves a place on everybody’s anime shelf. Display it proudly.

Alternate Titles: Hidashi no Gen
Original Japanese Release Date: 1983
Episode Length/Run-time: 83 minutes
Summary:
Gen lives with his mother, father, and little brother in Hiroshima 1945 =. It has been 3 years since the conflict with the U.S. began and the trials of the war have begun to take their toll on the country of Japan. Despite the scarcity of food and other necessities they work to make their lives happy and the best they can. However on the 6th of August 1945 everything changes with the dropping of the first atomic bomb in human history. Gen’s fight for survival begins in the tattered remains of what once was his normalcy.
Review:
Barefoot Gen began as a 10 volume manga running from 1983-1984. It was later produced into a feature film in 1983 with a sequel in 1986. There have also been a number of novels and live action movies and TV series paired with the series.
I think what makes this movie so impacting is it’s creator: Nakazawa. Nakazawa is a survivor of the atomic bombing himself and produced this manga to tell his story and the story of all those who lost their lives and who had to live through the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Knowing this the anime becomes all the more impacting. However, also knowing this you have to understand that the anime is being told from the experiences of a survivor who made it through but this is going to add a spin to his story.
The story doesn’t really begin until the bombing. While it starts the day before this acts as a set-up for everything which is to come. When the bombing happens gen is separated from his family and what ensues is a grotesque and historically accurate series of images. People’s flesh melt off, their eyes boil and pool from their eyes, their clothing burns away in an instant. Those that do survive are left as wandering corpses desperately thirsty for water and aid. The scenery changes in an instant to a hellish landscape where everything is destroyed. Gen navigates through this back to his family only to see his house ablaze. Only his mother escapes and they watch in horror as his little brother and father burn to death before their eyes. They attempt to sleep, but cannot rest, haunted by the screams of the injured throughout the city.
Gen’s mother, pregnant, gives birth to a baby girl prematurely. Since no midwife or doctor can be found Gen must attempt to aid in the delivery of the baby. The baby is delivered and now Gen must look after himself and his mother and newborn sister as the patriarch of the family.
This movie is one heartbreak after another. Just when things seem to be going good they crush you again. The overall hopelessness hangs over the viewer and character like a dense haze that cannot be lifted. What likely makes it even more unbearable is the fact that it is historically accurate on many levels.
That is not to say though the movie is perfect. Sometimes it does seem sensationalized. This anime is never uttered because of the fact that it just doesn’t stand up in production to other WWII anime such as grave of the fireflies and took significantly longer to see a DVD release. The music is lacking and the animation shows its age clearly.
That being said the content and commentary alone is enough to put it on anyone’s must-watch list. The overall message, despite the sorrow, is one of the perseverance and strength of the human spirit. Leaving the viewer on a hopeful note compared to other films and works. This sometimes is criticized for seeming unrealistic but in my opinion it is a powerful message to a good movie.

Original Japanese Release Date: 1995
Episode Length/Run-time: 6 ( 25 mins ea. )
Summary:
Kintarou Oe is a genius who completed all his university courses then quit before graduating. He becomes a wandering student, learning what he can about life, the world, and women along the way. Hes willing to do whatever it takes to prove himself. His travels take him to various places and women who learn to love him, but not before he runs off.
Review:
In every episode, Kintarou must learn some kind of new skill in order to survive, even basic things like cooking. He is usually surrounded by beautiful women, and acts accordingly as no self-respecting horn dog would. One wouldnt think an overly-horny pervert would make a great lead role but he does!
One of the great things about this show is that the animation is beautiful. The artwork is drawn very well, from the characters to their facial expressions. The show is accompanied by appropriate music, which seems fitting. Also, did I mention the girls in this series dont wear bras?
But then I have to say this. Sorry, but even through all the fan service and lechery, Kintarou actually has a lot of respect and admiration for women, and he never ends up doing anything with them.
Golden boy hits what most guys are thinking when going after a girl dead-on, and that makes it hilarious. If you love laughing until you wet yourself, watch this show. Its perverted, silly, and a ton of fun.

Alternate Titles: ParaKiss
Original Japanese Release Date: 2005
Episode Length/Run-time: 12
Summary:
Yukari is your typical Japanese high school student. She attends school every day, goes to cram school, obeys her parents to a T, and is at the point of having a mental breakdown over exams. One day she is spotted by members of a group which calls themselves “Paradise Kiss.” Students from a local fashion school they pull her into their world as a model for an upcoming competition. Being renamed Caroline by the team she begins to respect these off-beat people who follow their dreams and their handsome yest mysterious leader/designer George.
Review:
Paradise Kiss is not an anime for your average male. I never say never, but I will say if you have 20 guys in a room about 1-3, tops, will like or be interested in Paradise Kiss. That being said, it speaks to the woman in every female.
Yukari/Caroline goes through a coming of age as most women do in their later High School years. It’s that tender age of beginning to decide for yourself over allowing others, namely your parents and societal expectations to decide for you. It’s also the age where you begin to make decisions of the risk versus the reward. And, of course, love.
This is a mature anime, despite it’s appearance of cloths making and modeling. It deals with premarital sex, relationships, running away from home, and of course love. A slice of life drama it keeps you hoping and dreaming with Yukari and you really sympathize with her struggle.
The anime is polished and beautiful looking, in the style of Ai Yazawa. Music isn’t anything notable, other than a good opening song, but it fits the series. It’s also the perfect length, with very little filler. And, just as it would be about to get boring it wraps up the series in a nice little bow like a present for your time.
It’s a great series for any girl or fan of fashion or romance. The masculine man may want to stay away though.

Alternate Titles:Houhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun (ホーホケキョとなりの山田くん)
Original Japanese Release Date: 1999
Episode Length/Run-time: 104 minutes
Summary:
The movie tells the story of the real life interactions of the Yamada family in short arcs throughout the film. They are real life situations from a wife not knowing what to cook for dinner, to children having problems with how “boring” their parents are. A slice of life with morals and a character-driven story.
Review:
When this film originally opened in Japan it opened on 245 screens and had a production budget of ¥2,360,000,000. The film was produced by Takahata, co-founder of Studio Ghibli based of the yonkoma manga Nono-chan by Hisaichi Ishii. It is the only Studio Ghibli film not presented in the traditional Ghibli style but a delicate and storybook-like animation of watercolor and ink. The animation was the first completely-digital productions from Studio Ghibli and remains a prime example of what digital animation can do for the hand-drawn charm and feel.
The music in this series is delicate and appropriate, getting boisterous and energetic during peak scenes such as forgetting your child in a mall and rushing back. It flows like the animation and complements the storytelling perfectly.
The storytelling is beautiful, if there was ever a perfect slice of life, this was it. The family is funny and real, a little bit of every person’s family life in each of the members. The message is as simplistic and beautiful as the style. Love your family and treasure them, because in this day in age it’s all too easy to fall apart.
I don’t want to ruin any of this movie because it’s so beautiful that I hope everyone can watch it. If you’re unsure watch the first 30, no just 12 minutes and you will see everything I mean and more.
