Summary:

Sequel to the 2004 film Appleseed, Appleseed: ExMachina takes place after WWIII.  A new nation: Olympus, has risen from the war and is determined to maintain peace with the help of ESWAT an elete law enforcement unit.  Deunan and her lover/partner Briareos are members of ESWAT and their lives are thrown into turmoil when a new experimental Biroid (cyborgs manufactured by the government to not feel negative emotions and are completely programmable) named Tereus joins their ranks.  To make things worse a sinister plot is brewing around a new hot consumer product that has something to do with mind control.

Review:

This anime is interesting because it is one of the few out there done in a  cel-shaded completely CG style.  It’s a style which most people will find tolerable, some will love it because of it’s originality and the animation purists will hate it.

It’s possible to follow this movie even if you’ve not seen  the first one, though I think having seen the first one will help you connect with the characters more.

At some points the movie seemed to drag on with tedious details that ended up ultimately being not really important to the overall story.  However, it did have a great ending.
