Reviews: Millennium Actress, Paprika, Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers (Scores not given at this time to honor his memory)
Kon, Satoshi born October 12 1963, is the man behind the most innovative anime of the past 10 years. Mr. Kon’s first film Perfect Blue garnered much success and critical acclaim due to its “mature” story-telling and Kon’s amazing cinematography. Although Perfect Blue was based on a novel beforehand, Satoshi Kon was able to craft the story into a perfect film, unlike other movie adoptions of the time. Mr. Kon then set his eyes upon Paprika another novel for his next film, however he would not direct it until late 2004 nearly 7 years later.
Satoshi Kon’s next film, Millenium Actress made him a celebrated anime director with respect not only in anime but film-making in general. MA, a story about an actress whom secludes herself from the public , became a critical and financial success, far more so than Perfect Blue. Millenium Actress also utilized Satoshi Kon’s style of “imagination within reality” something his next movie would steer away from.
Stay Tuned for pt.2 coming later in the week.
