Many mixed feelings about the fate of Ghibli.
Chiaki used an automaker analogy, I’ll use another one. Enzo Ferarri built production sports cars in order to finance racing, where most automakers race to advertise their production vehicles. Enzo said the following:
“The demands of mass production are contrary to my temperament…”
I agree with Chiaki that Miyazaki made movies to make movies, not to make money, That they did, allowed him to make more.
Now with Myazaki out of the picture, what is the driving force behind Ghibli? Is it now just going to generate revenue for licensing? In that case, sadly the Ghibli talent pool will be dissolved.
If they continued to make movies, cutting costs by outsourcing, the Ghibli Talent pool is still decimated.
Personally, I’d rather see Ghibli go away than throw over cel animation for 3DCG like Disney did.
…sigh…
