Episode 260: Guess the Sequel
It’s time for another call in game! We’re playing ‘guess the sequel’ with our live listeners where we all predict what anime will have a sequel someday in the future. What show do you think deserves a second (or third) season?

Can’t say i share your enthousiasm about the chances of Baccano! getting a sequel series, as the existing series didn’t make much of an impact in Japan as far as sales or popularity is concerned. It’s got a following in the U.S., certainly, but i doubt that this would be enough to make a new TV series a reality. Fooly Cooly is presumably in the same boat, with it now being largely forgotten in Japan. Gainax loves to revisit their earlier works though, so it might not be quite as much of a stretch as Baccano! (If they are to revisit any of their non-EVA classics, i would say Nadia is a much likelier guess, however).
Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are IMO unlikely simply because Shinichiro Watanabe doesn’t generally show an interest in returning to his earlier work. In fact, i would be extremely surprised if he hadn’t received and subsequently refused requests from the US for working on more Bebop stuff on several previous occasions.
A Magic Knight Rayearth remake may be a possibility, though with its 20th anniversary having been reached last year, one would have thought that was the most opportune time to announce one. Still a reasonable possibility, though. Cardcaptor Sakura would be an even likelier candidate, i think. There’s been an avalanche of new merchandise coming out for the CCS franchise over the past year and a half and with the manga’s 20th anniversary coming up next year, the timing may be right for a remake TV series.
I’m surprised that no-one went for Tezuka’s Black Jack franchise as their guess, which i would consider a near certainty for an eventual new TV production, as Tezuka’s stuff tends to be revisited periodically. Another classic i could see getting revived for a younger generation is the shoujo classic Ace wo Nerae.

Black Jack is also a good guess! It already had one remake, so we’re not sure if that helps or hurts it in getting a third or not.
