The anime (and manga) “Antique Bakery” has a sympathetically portrayed gay character who is not a comic relief character or the butt of jokes. They do make him out to have a strong libido and be a bit of a “player” and “heartbreaker”, to slightly comedic effect I guess, but otherwise they take his emotional life seriously. It shows him suffering homophobic slurs in High School and how he moved forward from those negative experiences. I found the character very relatable. Moreover, the character’s employer, who is the former classmate who used the homophobic slur, later apologies for this and asks his former classmate for forgiveness. I haven’t read the manga, but I was really impressed with the anime adaptation for how it handled the gay male co-main character.
