Episode 343 – Fall 2016 Anime Selections
We do our Fall 2016 Anime Selections. What anime will we be selecting to cover in the upcoming anime season.
We do a Studio Spotlight on TOEI Animation, one of the oldest anime studio’s in Japan.
Finally, a review on RE: Zero. Will we like this recent, very popular anime title?

No one during the ReZero review really mention that the show’s viewpoint was on Subaru except for the flashbacks and one point towards the end with Emilia. That’s probably why you guys felt certain things fell back to the wayside because those things weren’t the focus for Subaru. The show really makes us learn the world at the same time that Subaru does. We barely get any additional knowledge that Subaru doesn’t have which is mostly backstory for some characters.
Kazou, you cannot call yourself a man of the people when you hate on the shows that the people deem as popular especially when Mitsugi enjoys the people’s shows more than you do.

Have to admit given the struggle to make picks, that something I expect will be amongst my fave anime of the year based on previous seasons, Natsume S5, got picked by no-one.

None of the hosts have seen the other seasons and we usually avoid sequels unless at least one, if not two or more, of us have seen the previous seasons. Plus, we have also not passed shows because they are sequels and we like to try to cover new shows – example: Second season of Shokugeki. Most people know that Natusme S5 is going to be awesome and if they should watch it or not, regardless if we cover it or not 😉

Elements, I really felt you swept over, were the fact that this had a deep mystery vibe, as in “what is going on?!” and the puzzle effect related to them for the viewer. The wtf effect the first time Rem killed you (without knowing it was Rem), the whole ordeal of how to solve each scenario… it seems these moments were lost on you.
Quick run down of how I viewed the whole 25 episodes:
First Arc: Save the girl. Why? Because she saved you, don’t be a dufus and help her you loser.
Second Arc: Survive the Resident Evil.
Third Arc: Psychology + Political Drama (recovering from Arc 2).
Forth Arc: Logistics Time Management + Raid Boss (Getting rid of a great plague for the people).
Fifth Arc: The Mystery of the Witch (Getting lots of hints from a person somewhat sharing the same powers, while also getting a deeper view into the extent of Emilia’s powers and the consequences of failing (world’s end))
Finish: Kiss the girl
Also, you all go on saying he has no agenda to do this and that. I can’t believe I didn’t hear anyone say “because it is the right thing to do!”, and everything that follows kinda felt natural. The first arc was him basically just being the good guy (wouldn’t you guys try to do this after she saved you the first time? Wow you’re dark!). The second arc was basically a horror scene he tried to escape. He died once without knowing why in his sleep (things were going well with romancing too), then the next day he died brutally without knowing why, then he tried to escape the place yet even then got hunted down and killed, finally he tries to just hide in the mansion (only to get everyone slaughtered in the end, but commit suicide because he figured the riddle out and thus could fix it). Arc 3 is him being a mess and character development, which after the horror show arc 2 was would be totally understandable. He even admitted he did most things just because he wanted to be a hero, etc. and even wanted to run away with Rem at some point, yet she convinced him to stick around doing “what was right!” (even without knowing what that would be, as all she knew was that she loved the “good guy” version of him, which also was the one trying to help Emilia (even if it would be for selfish reasons)). Thus he stuck to the good-guy story line (again, I would totally relate to this), and tried to help Emilia this time, and not out of self interest this time, but more out of solitary and the future of everyone (he basically owes her a lot, and the stakes are high cause of the upcoming election (to which she is a better candidate with a nobler agenda)). The “kiss the girl” agenda is more of a super mario bonus, and an excuse to be by her side as she takes the country towards a better tomorrow.
